Can I Please Be the Bionic Woman?

When I was in upper-elementary school, I wanted to be the Bionic Woman.                      Do any of you remember the TV hero, played by Lindsay Wagner?

Seriously, I wanted to BE HER.
I wanted to be her so badly, I tormented my poor mama with my insatiable longings. One morning, as I was dramatically draped over her bed (that she was trying to make-up, by the way), pining away about my longings for dramatic strength; she stopped, put her hands on her hips and asked me in a voice louder than usual, “Fine! Do we need to cut off your arms and legs and replace them with bionic ones?!”
With wide eyes, I lifted off her bed and quickly left her room.

In my deepest soul, though, all I really wanted was to be strong.
In reality, I was skinny and small and, well … ten.

Going even deeper…I wanted courage. I wanted to feel brave. Because I was far from brave. I’d rather hang out with the baby pigs on our farm, because, frankly, I was afraid of people. I was picked on in school, I didn’t know how to stick up for myself; and I hated the fact that I needed to.

Anyone know what I’m talking about? Did or do any of you secretly wish you were a certain superhero?

What if I told you, you DO have special powers? That they are hidden inside you?
YOU have personality traits that are stronger than others.

YOU have superpowers.
BriggsMeyer

Once upon a time there were a mother and daughter who had the power to see there were superpowers among us. Their names were Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Meyers. They were not the only ones with this belief, but they dedicated their lives to help people find their personality types. These specific types come with a set of strengths. Or, what I like to call: Superpowers.

Also, about 3000 years ago, a gifted Israeli shepherd wrote a song to God, with these lyrics:
“Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works…My substance was not hid from Thee, when I was made in secret…” (Psalm 139 KJV)

Know this:
YOU were very carefully crafted.
With love.
With wonder.
With power.
On purpose.

I think that’s super-good news.
And we don’t even have to be whisked away to some creepy lab to get the installation.

Next week: We’re going to get into the biological science behind our personalities.

With love,
Tam
