“Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more resistance we will feel toward pursuing it.”
-Steven Pressfield, The War of Art, 12
So, why am I spending so much time talking about this Resistance?
Because it’s a wonderous clue!
If we are faced with great resistance (often takes the form of procrastination, perfectionism, any/all self-sabotage) to finish a good work, we can know that creative work is worth doing! In other words: please finish that art/writing/music, we need it in our world!
As already mentioned, my vision for Parable Park is 10 years old. Within that 10 years I experienced betrayal, marriage collapse, death of a daughter from cancer, divorce, return to university, remarriage, another marital separation, and 12 residential relocations including two continents and several states. Twelve.
I’m not claiming all of the above are works of the Resistance, but Parable Park waited patiently while I neglected its crafting, giving in to the pulling down of sadness, self-pity, or packing.

How committed are we to the art we believe we are meant to create? Do we believe the world needs it? Do we believe we need it?
I’m a Holy Bible reader and I love this verse in the New Testament:
“Like good stewards of the manifold (diverse) grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”
I Peter 4:10 New Revised Standard Version
We’ve been commanded by God to create and serve our art (if art is one’s grace/talent/gift)!

What better excuse do we need, creative friends?!
Let me encourage you. Let me give you permission:
Do. The. Thing.
You know what it is. You love it. Pull it off the shelf and spend 30 minutes with it, today. Just read it! I promise you will be happy you did.
Tell us about it in the comments below, so we can applaud you!
